FRESC Research -
Change & Disturbance
Species and habitats can be affected by both natural and human-associated disturbances, such as climate change, extreme weather, wildfire, invasive species, contaminants, urbanization, and energy development. Organisms have different abilities to adapt to changes, so some events can be catastrophic to one species and inconsequential to another, resulting in a complex of interacting effects on communities, ecosystems and landscapes. FRESC scientists study the effects of disturbances on aquatic and terrestrial species, biogeochemistry, habitat connectivity, restoration, water quality, and landscape patterns.
