Fire Safety

Kids! NEVER play with matches or flammable items around an open fire or without adult supervision. And NEVER leave flammable materials in the kitchen; especially near the oven or stovetop, where most house fires start.Fire

One of the best ways to prevent fires is to pay close attention to activities that have the potential to cause fires. There are also ways to ensure fire safety around your home:

Get a smoke detector/alarm (check at least once a month)
Get a fire extinguisher (place in high risk areas)
Practice fire safety
Make an escape plan

Your family should have a fire plan of how to escape from your house if it is on fire. If you get caught in a fire, the first thing to do is dial 911 and stay low to the ground to prevent inhaling the smoke and until you have escaped the burning house. DO NOT try to put the fire out yourself and DO NOT seek shelter indoors! ALWAYS get out of the house as soon as possible!

Kids! If your clothing ever catches fire, remember to STOP, DROP, and, ROLL until the fire is put out. If you ever see a fire outdoors, you should immediately call 911 or tell an adult. Again, GET AWAY from the fire and DO NOT try to put it out yourself.
