PPS TRMM Version 7 File Specifications
These documents define the specific software interfaces for Version 7 science algorithms to enable integration of the algorithms into the PPS environment. These replace the PPS TRMM Version 6 Interface Control Specifications.

File Specifications for TRMM Products - Version 7.00 Document contains file specifications for each algorithm written by PPS. This document replaces the previous Volumes 3 and 4 Interface Control specifications for Level 1, 2 and 3 TRMM products.

Metadata for TRMM Products - Version 7.00 Document describes metadata, organized by group. This document replaces the previous Volume 6 Interface Control for Metadata for TRMM products.

TRMM V6 vs. V7 Major Data Format Changes - Version 7.00 Document describes major Data Format Changes in Version 7 TRMM products as compared to previous Version 6 TRMM products.

TMPA-IMERG Comparison- This is a summary comparison table of the TRMM TMPA data products vs. the GPM IMERG Data products.

Caveats for TRMM SLH V7A- These notes describe a misclassification that occured in the previous version 7 SLH product and details changes applied to the SLH V7A version.

TRMM V7 Roll Corrections -This note discusses the roll correction which has been incorporated in V7 processing. These changes will affect the geolocation (latitude and longitude) of pixels on the Earth’s surface by a small amount, typically less than a kilometer.

PPS TRMM and GPM Science Algorithm Toolkits and Documentation
The PPS TRMM Science Algorithm Toolkit (TKIO), "Toolkit for I/O (input/output)" allows seamless integration of TRMM algorithms into the PPS environment.

To help the PPS Science Users develop the TRMM algorithms, PPS has provided the PPS Science Algorithm Toolkit. The purpose of the toolkit is two-fold. First, the toolkit provides a library of commonly used routines, constants, and macros, and, secondly, it allows seamless integration of TRMM algorithms into the PPS environment.

In developing algorithms for PPS the science users must interact with HDF files for PPS standard products. The toolkit provides routines for reading and writing data to and from the HDF files; routines are provided for Level 1-3 products and for both satellite and GV. Each of the routines in the toolkit is callable in either C or FORTRAN. The toolkit also includes routines for reading land/sea data and topographical data. The routines provided in the toolkit can be divided into the following categories:

  • File Access (e.g., open/close routines)
  • Data Access (e.g., read/write routines)
  • Metadata Access (e.g., reading and writing metadata elements)
  • Ancillary Data Access (e.g., land/sea or topographical data access)
  • Error Reporting Utilities.

For more information about the PPS Toolkit or to download the toolkit, please see the

TRMM and GPM Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documentation (ATBD)
These documents describe the TRMM and GPM algorithm physical bases and mathematical equations and detail the instrument and software design.

PPS TRMM Version 6 Interface Control Specifications and Other Version 6 Documents
These documents define the specific software interfaces for science algorithms to enable integration of the algorithms into the PPS environment. It does not address the algorithm development efforts themselves, nor does it address PPS software development efforts. The ICS is divided into six volumes.
