About OMWI

What is the purpose of OMWI?

OMWI ensures that minorities, women, service-disabled veterans, and individuals with disabilities are fully included in any and all job and business opportunities  created as a part of the federal government’s efforts to reform and strengthen the banking system and the financial services industry as it seeks to guide and influence America’s economic recovery.

How does OMWI achieve its purpose?

OMWI achieves its purpose by establishing and implementing policies, procedures, incentives and programs to increase hiring, promotion, and procurement opportunities within the agency and within the financial institutions that it regulates:  Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks.

How did the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI) come about?

The 2008 Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HERA) established the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) as a new regulatory body to oversee the activities of
Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks.

Section 1116 of HERA requires the establishment of an office to promote diversity in all activities at every level of the organization, including employment, management, and contracting.  In addition,
Section 342 of The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (PDF) establishes all the functions of OMWI.

How can I do business with FHFA?

There are several opportunities to work with FHFA as a contractor or outside vendor. The key is to let us know you’re out there. To register and learn how to do business with us visit
FHFA Acquisition Policy and also download and read FHFA’s short booklet on contracting (FHFA Contracting Booklet).

How can I do business with the entities FHFA regulates?

Each of the entities FHFA regulates has its own independent registration, solicitation, and contractor selection process.

Here are links to give you more information about business opportunities with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks.

How can I partner with OMWI?

OMWI is eager to work with industry organizations to ensure broader participation in the financial services industry.  To learn more about partnership opportunities, visit OMWI’s Partnership page
