Chief Master Sergeant Lawrence W. Crowson is the State Command Chief for the State of South Carolina. In this role, he is responsible to the Adjutant General/Assistant General for Air on quality-of-life issues and concerns for the enlisted Airman.

CMSgt. Lawrence W. Crowson enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard in 1972 and transferred to active duty in November 1973. He graduated from the Munitions Maintenance Specialist Course in March 1974 and was assigned as a munitions maintenance specialist at Myrtle Beach AFB. He separated from the Air Force in 1975 and joined the South Carolina Air National Guard that same year. Chief Crowson served as a munitions missile technician and maintenance training manager from June 1983 to February 1985 until he was assigned as Quality Assurance specialist, Munitions Element supervisor. While assigned to the Quality Assurance element, Chief Crowson performed duties as the lead Air National Guard Weight and Balance Program manager in March of 1985. Chief Crowson returned to the Munitions Element as supervisor in June of 1989 and completed the Combat Ammunitions Planning Course in July of 1990. He served as the Munitions Branch chief during DESERT STORM/DESERT SHIELD and became the first enlisted Munitions Accountable System Officer in the Air National Guard in March of 1995. In February 1996, his Munitions Element received an “Outstanding” rating and “best seen to date” by the 9th Air Force Inspector General. Chief Crowson deployed as Munitions flight chief on the first Air National Guard Air Expeditionary Force in February 1997.

In August 1997, he was promoted to Quality Assurance superintendent. During Operation ENDURING FREEDOM was assigned as the 366th Air Expeditionary Wing Quality Assurance Chief and the Logistic Group Chief Enlisted Manager. Also during IRAQI FREEDOM, he was assigned as the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing Quality Assurance Chief. He served as Quality Assurance Superintendent until July 2002 when he was assigned as Maintenance Operations Flight Chief and was reassigned in April 2004 back to the Quality Assurance Superintendent. April 2007, Chief Crowson was assigned as the Aircraft Maintenance Chief then in February 2011, Chief Crowson was reassigned back to the Quality Assurance Superintendent. January 2012, Chief Crowson was appointed as the State Command Chief for the State of South Carolina. Chief Crowson resides in Columbia, South Carolina with his wife Renee’.
