Command photos are portraits taken in front of a neutral background or the American flag, with or without the South Carolina State flag on the American flag’s opposite side. These are official photos, and can be used in support of promotion, AGR, award packets, printing and distribution as part of “Chain Of Command Walls” (armories and commands) and may be published on magazines, newspapers, and web-based media.

DA Photos are official photos that, once taken, must be submitted to the proper authority at the Department of The Army.

DA Official Photographs are taken without flags, in front of a cerulean blue backdrop, and are framed in a 3/4 length format (4”x6” portrait).

Note: DA Official Photographs must have specific personal information--including the SSN--embedded in the file. The customer must provide such information.

How to schedule an appointment at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Go to www.vios.army.mil

* Note: Please follow instructions provided to avoid cancellation of work request(s).

*Note: Do not use back button.  Use previous, next or cancel at the bottom of the screen.

How to get started setting up your profile (for first time users):

  • Click on Fort Jackson from U.S. map (on the right at middle of the page)
  • Choose digital certificate (not your email)
  • Click OK
  • Enter PIN
  • Click OK
  • Select new VIOS user (left of screen)
  • Find Fort Jackson from the drop-down menu (at bottom of screen)
  • Click continue
  • Click on the DA Form 3903
  • Enter your information

* Note: Please use only your AKO email address

*Note: Duty phone numbers/cell phone numbers are accepted for photography work requests only. 

For Army Reserve, National Guard or ROTC:

  • Select military branch from Level 1's drop-down menu  

*Note: If you are Army Reserve, National Guard, Air Force, Marine or Civilian, enter it in the comment section. 

* If your unit is not listed in the list of organizations, enter it in the comment section.      

  • Click next  
  • Justification: Enter the reason for the request.  What will this work be used for? (Example: display, training, etc.) 
  • Click photography
  • Click next at bottom of screen
  • Type of photography: Select from drop-down menu

 

For a DA Photo:
  • Select DA Photo from the type of photography drop down menu
  • Select promotion board, school requirements, special requirements or warrant officer package
  • Select enlisted or officer
  • Quantity: Number of photos you are requesting 
* Note: If you are requesting a DA Photo and a Command Photo, the quantity is "2."  If you are requesting a DA Photo with 2 prints, enter the number "2."
 
* Note: In the comment section, explain your request.  (Example: Request a DA Photo and a Command Photo with 5 prints.  Request an award photo with 2 prints.)
 
* Note: DO NOT submit a separate work request for each type of photo.
 
*Note: The total number of photos and/or prints MUST show in the quantity box.
 
* Note: Prints are not given for DA Photos unless they are for a special packet.  Not for  a DA promotion board.
 
 
For a head and shoulder portrait:
  • Type of portrait: Select from the list change of command photo, memorial photo, special award, special school or other.
 * Note: DO NOT select DA Photo.  This is not a head and shoulders portrait. 
  • Portrait size: select size from drop-down menu 
* Note: The standard size for a portrait is 8 x 10.  If you need another size, select from the drop-down menu.  If you are not sure, please call for assistance.
  • Quantity: Number of photos you are requesting.
* Note:  In the comment section, explain your requet.  (Examples: Request a DA Photo and Command Photo with 5 prints.  Request an award photo with 2 prints.)
  • Click next
  • Additional comments:  Pt all additional information in this box if necessary.
  • Click next
  • Summary:  Review and click previous if you find an error
  • Click submit
* Note:  If you click submit, you CANNOT go back to make changes.
*Note:  Keep your work request number for reference.
